Electronic and Computer Repair Industry

Young people who are trying to decide on a course of study and a subsequent career should look seriously at the electronic and computer repair industry. It is one of a handful of industries that thrive in all economic conditions, even unfavorable ones. That's because in bad times hard-pressed consumers are seeking to extend the life of their electronic devices. This means repairing and maintaining them, not replacing them. Conversely, in good economic times, demand for new devices increases, and older devices are handed down to younger, less affluent people - ones who once again will need to repair these devices since they cannot afford to buy new ones.

Market penetration of personal electronic devices is growing at a feverish rate, even in the current slump. As new devices hit the market, the value equation for the industry improves. That is because low- and mid-priced devices soon acquire features that were once reserved for only the most expensive ones. Both hardware and software leaps forward with each new model, and yet overall the price for functionality is declining. Music players can now store five to ten times as much material as they could only three years ago. Sophisticated games and applications abound, and especially for young people, the social pressures to communicate electronically with friends are intense. Beside phone calls and text messages, young people want to share pictures, videos and music with their peers.

Of course, the worst thing that can happen to a teenager is for his/her personal devices to break. To be cut off from constant communication with friends is painful for them. Thankfully, there are Internet companies that specialize in quick IPod repair, as well as repair of other popular devices. One company, Rhousemedia, offers not only free and fast shipment, but does not even charge for labor, just parts. Consumer response to companies like Rhousemedia proves that young savvy consumers want to extend the life of their personal devices at rock-bottom cost and with lightening speed.

The computer and electronics repair industry is thus a bright spot in a dull economy. As new devices become available like the new MacBook Air, there will be need for Macbook repair. They also are potential employers of students that receive certification in electronic technology. The merging of computers with entertainment devices means that new repair personnel will need more extensive training to handle a wider variety of challenges. Students should thoughtfully consider these trends as they choose which schools to attend and which courses to take.
